Overview

Jai Bhagavad Gite is an aarti offered not to Krishna directly, but to the Bhagavad Gita itself — the teaching Krishna gave to Arjuna on the field of Kurukshetra — as a scripture in its own right. Where a personal-deity aarti describes a god’s form, weapons, and deeds, this one addresses the Gita as “Mother” and describes what the text does for a seeker: it reveals the true secret of action (karma), removes attachment to desire, unfolds the knowledge of ultimate reality, grants unwavering devotion, dissolves impurity and demonic tendencies, teaches equanimity and renunciation, and is called “the very words from Hari’s own mouth” and “mistress of all scripture, queen of the Vedas.” Krishna (Hari) appears only by reference — the devotional center of gravity here is the text itself.

Origin and source

The aarti is tied to the Bhagavad Gita’s own place within the Mahabharata: Krishna’s teaching to Arjuna as the armies gathered at Kurukshetra were about to give battle. Its stanzas draw directly on the Gita’s own central themes — dispelling raga and dvesha (attachment and aversion), teaching samata (equanimity) and tyaga (renunciation), and holding the essence of “sakal shastra” (all scripture) and the Shrutis, the Vedas — rather than retelling any narrative from the epic.

How it is recited

Jai Bhagavad Gite is traditionally sung at the close of a Gita path — a reading of the Bhagavad Gita, whether a single sitting or a longer recitation — honoring the text just recited before the lamp is set down, in the same way Aarti Shri Ramayan Ji Ki closes a reading of the Ramcharitmanas. It is also sung on Gita Jayanti, the festival on Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi that marks the day Krishna gave the Gita’s teaching to Arjuna.
